Karen Scavotto and Archery Tickets

Karen Scavotto was born 17 April 1982 in Danbury, Connecticut. She is an American archer. She now resides in Enfield, Connecticut, and is an alumna of Enfield High School. She is currently ranked fifth in the world by the International Archery Federation. She competed in archery at the 2000 Summer Olympics.

Karen Scavotto is one of the greatest archery players in the world. Her age is only 17. When Karen Scavotto was only ten, she first competed, but she was on the road to victory.
She asked for a new bow every year. "I wanted to shoot and when I was 8, my father got me a little plastic bow and brought it home. He thought I would be happy shooting a few times. I got it and I was upset because it wasn't a real bow".

Her pleas were answered when her father took her down to the archery range near her home and let her shoot her first real bow. Her coach at the time told her she was a natural.

She has received training from her coach, Richard "Butch" Johnson. Butch Johnson's wife, Tricia, who also is an accomplished archer, started coaching Scavotto in a Junior Olympic division. A two year Olympic winner, Butch Johnson first made it to the Games in Barcelona in 1992, where a very impressive opening ceremony took place. The Olympic cauldron was lit with a flaming arrow shot from his bow. Scavotto was only 10 years old then, but she'd already started down the line to victory.
It is an exciting time for Karen Scavotto. Three weeks after making the Olympic team, she competed in her first international competition as a senior archer at the Sydney International Golden Arrow tournament. Karen Scavotto won six consecutive head-to-head victories over some of the world's best archers to win the gold medal. Later, she joined Olympians Janet Dykman and Denise Parker her new teammates on the U.S. Olympic Archery Team to win the bronze medal.

A Legend and Archery

KHAIRUL Anuar Mohamad is a Malaysian hero. He made Malaysian archery history when he reached the men's individual final at the fourth World Cup leg in Shanghai. Competing in his first World Cup meet, the 20-year-old national archer will meet American Joe Fan Chin in final after claiming several big scalps in an inspired run through the 56-man draw. After notching 7-3 wins over Finland's Antti Tekoniemi and India's Atanu Das in the opening two rounds, Khairul Anuar scored a major upset when he beat 2010 World Cup Finals champion and top seed Brady Ellison of the United States 6-4 in the third round.
Khairul Anuar then roared back from being 0-4 down to claim a nail-biting 6-5 win over another American, Jake Kaminski 6-5 in the quarter-finals which went down to a tie-breaker in the fifth set. Both archers fired a perfect 10 but the Malaysian's arrow was closer to the bulls-eye than Kaminski's to advance to the last four. In the semi-finals, the 169th-ranked Khairul Anuar brushed aside Mexican Pedro Vivas Alcala 7-1 while Fanchin edged Mitch Die lemans 6-5 after winning a tie-breaker.
Khairul Anuar's achievement is the first medal for a Malaysian in an individual World Cup event and eclipsed the previous best result by a national archer when Wan Khalmizam Wan Abd Aziz reached the quarter-finals of the World Cup in Shanghai two years ago.

Archery Tickets

Archery is the art, practice, or skill of propelling arrows with the use of a bow and a sport that dates back years and years before the modern day version that we have today with all sorts of high-tech equipment and different techniques of shooting and competing with other archers.
Long before archery became an Olympic sport, civilizations rose and fell on their skills with the bow and arrow. Genghis Khan and his Mongols used the known world for target practice. In approx. 2800 BC, the first composite bow was produced by the Egyptians. It was made from wood, tipped with animal horn and held together with animal sinew and glue. Unstrung, it resembled a "C" shape and would have required 2 people to string it. The bowstring was made from "catgut" (sheep intestines). The arrows used were extremely light, could be shot 400 yards using the composite bow and would easily penetrate the armor of that time period. The Egyptians used archers on the back of light chariots who were highly trained and skilled and could easily outflank an enemy army with devastating effect.

Archery was highly developed in Asia and in the Islamic world. In East Asia, ancient Korean civilizations, such as the Silla, Baekje, andGoguryeo were well known for their regiments of exceptionally skilled archers. Central Asian tribesmen and American Plains Indians were extremely adept at archery on horseback. At Crecy, France, in the year 1346, the English longbow proved its worth for the first time in Continental warfare.
